About Cameroon

Yaounde, captial of Cameroon
The Republic of Cameroon is a unitary republic of central west Africa that enjoys relative political and social stability. Agriculture, transport, mineral processing and hydrocarbon industries are the principal economic activities in Cameroon.
Originally a German colony, Cameroon was divided between French and British sovereignty after the First World War. In 1960, French Cameroon became an independent republic, amalgamating with the southern part of British Cameroon in 1961 to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon.
The country was renamed the United Republic of Cameroon in 1972 and renamed again as The Republic of Cameroon (République du Cameroun) in 1984.
Cameroon's official languages are French and English.
